Welcome to Social Studies: World War II
This is a five module course that will be entirely online. Each module focuses on the South Carolina State Standards for fifth grade social studies. You will be introduced to information that will aid you an understanding of the events that led to World War II; how the United States got involved; a summary of the major battles that took place in the European and Pacific theaters and the Allies’ strategies in both areas; the contribution of American citizens on the home front during the war; the impact of technology on the war and the economy; and how the lives of women, African Americans, and Japanese-Americans changed during this time.
To assist in the communication outside the classroom, Moodle will be used for homework submission, quizzes, and online communication. Moodle will also be used for any other correspondence needed between Mentor and the Learner. All announcements and updates pertaining to this course will be posted on Moodle, and it is your responsibility to check Moodle on a daily basis.

-Read online texts, assigned textbook chapters, and online articles
-Engage in positive, meaningful, and appropriate dialog with classmates in relation to the course subject matter
-Complete assignments/assessments in a timely matter
Delivery
This course has a modular structure. Each module is individually assessed, but successive modules build on previous information. The course pedagogy is based on collaborative learning and group participation. Discussion questions will form a basis for discussion. To facilitate the communication, Moodle is use for homework submission and online communication. Please be advised that it is your responsibility to login your online course frequently for course announcements.
Workload
The time demand for this online course is similar to a face-to-face class. You are expected to spend approximately 4 – 5 hours per week on this course. Some weeks may contain projects or homework assignments that extend beyond the normal hours of instruction.
